2017 Governor’s Outstanding Youth Volunteer Awards

Nominations for the Governor’s Outstanding Youth Volunteer Service Awards are now being accepted by the State Office of Volunteerism. This is a wonderful way to recognize the impact Delaware’s youth volunteers, 17 years of age and younger, have on their communities through volunteerism. Award recipients will be honored at a special ceremony on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Polytech Adult Education Conference Center.

Individuals and groups volunteering in the following service categories will be chosen; Arts/Culture, Community Service, Education, Environment, Health and Special Needs, Human Needs, Public Safety, Social Justice/Advocacy. Nominees must have volunteered the hours during the 2016 school calendar years. (January 1st – December 31st)

Nomination packets must be delivered to the State Office of Volunteerism by Friday, April 7, 2017.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the CLAYMONT LIBRARY

CCOBH is pleased to once again present, ”Homeowner and Civic Associations:  The Basics,” a repeat of its well-received initial seminar in a series of seminars for assistance to current or future board members of Civic Associations in Brandywine Hundred.

This seminar is intended to introduce newly installed Civic Association Board members to the legal and structural aspects of serving on a non-profit Board of Directors. This seminar, to be led by CCOBH President, Robert J. Valihura, Jr., Esquire, will cover the structures of Civic Associations and Homeowner Associations, the integration of Delaware law and a community’s controlling documents, the role of the Board of Directors, including fiduciary duties imposed on board members, reporting obligations and the limitation of personal liability of directors.

As a former State Representative and a current Adjunct Professor of Law teaching the Delaware Corporate law applicable to corporations and Civic Associations, Bob focuses his legal practice on representation of communities up and down the state concerning these types of structural Board issues.

Christina River Watershed Cleanup-Sat. Apr. 8th 8 AM-11 AM

Its time for the annual Christina River Watershed Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, April 8, 2017. The Naamans Creek contingent will meet at the F&N shopping center behind Sweeney’s Bakery at 8:00 AM. Lunch for volunteers will be served at 11:30 AM.

Recycling and Trash Issues Discussion-Thurs, Mar. 30th, 6:30PM

CCOBH is sponsoring a meeting dealing with recycling and trash issues on Thursday, March 30, 2017 6:30 PM at Springer Middle School.

The main program will be a Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) presentation beginning at 7:00 PM. Trash haulers may choose to participate to speak one-to-one with residents from 6:30 to 7:00 PM in the Lobby.

The program will also include a short presentation by Brandywine Conservancy.

Homeowner and Civic Associations: Beyond the Basics WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. CLAYMONT LIBRARY

CCOBH is pleased to present a new semiar on Wednesday, January 11th, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Claymont Library.

“Homeowner and Civic Associations:  Beyond the Basics”, a new entry in its series of seminars for assistance to current or future board members of Civic Associations in Brandywine Hundred.

This seminar is intended to provide Civic Association Board members with information and process beyond the basic legal and structural aspects of serving on a non-profit Board of Directors.

This seminar, to be led by CCOBH President, Robert J. Valihura, Jr., Esquire, will cover in depth the following topics:

Dispute resolution, collection of annual dues and fees, including pursuit of collection in the Justice of the Peace Court, and enforcement of restrictive covenants and deed restrictions.

A former State Representative and a current Adjunct Professor of Law teaching the Delaware Corporate law applicable to corporations and Civic Associations, Bob focuses his practice on representation of communities up and down the state concerning these types of structural Board issues.

CCOBH – State Agencies Seminar – Monday January 9th, 6-8PM

CCOBH is pleased to announce an upcoming Semiar for Civic Association leaders and interested citizens.

The CCOBH-State Agencies Seminar will be held on Monday, January 9th from 6-8 PM at the Claymont Library.

State agencies that will be at this meeting are: DelDOT, DNREC, and Health and Social Services.

The representatives will demonstrate their State Agency websites to familiarize attendees with its contents and how to locate wanted services using it.

Please bring suitable paper to write out your questions in case the State representatives may not be able to directly answer all of the questions at the meeting.

CCOBH-New Castle County Services Seminar for Civic Association Leaders

There will be a CCOBH-New Castle County Services Seminar for Civic Association Leaders, on Monday, November 14, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the Claymont Public Library.

County personnel will discuss services including sewer line repair, police special services, permit requirements, issues involving parks and streams.

Attendees are invited to bring their own questions and George Casson from New Castle County Constituent Services will provide an answer. Mr. Casson will also indicate where on the County website Civic Association leaders can find useful information such as the Civic Association Manual and the Maintenance Corporation Manual.

Bring your questions.

If you would like to participate in actual searches for information, please bring a laptop.

New Castle County Executive Debate-Wed. Oct. 26th-7:30pm

ncc_county-exec_debateWe invite you to attend a debate between the two candidates for New Castle County Executive, Mark Blake and Matt Meyer. It is jointly sponsored by CCOBH and EB100 (Eastern Brandywine Hundred Coordinating Council).

The debate will be held on Wednesday, October 26th at 7:30PM at the Talleyville Fire Hall. Panelists from CCOBH and EB100 will question the candidates, and questions may also be submitted by the audience.

County government is the government which most affects our daily lives, and both Mark Blake and Matt Meyer have some good ideas. We encourage residents to come out and hear those ideas, as well as to bring questions of their own.
